FOUNDER and DIRECTOR of Cape Town Biblical College Prof Sonja Shinn. (Prof.) BA Lit, MDiv, MTh : SHINN Sonja

She studied theology in the United States of America for 9 year at the Covenant Theological Seminary, Faith Theological Seminary, Biblical Theological Seminary and Westminster Theological Seminary. She obtained her MDiv from Biblical Theological Seminary and ThM in Old Testament from Faith Seminary. She has taught Old Testament and Greek at Chong Shin University for over 30 years. She came to South Africa as a missionary under GMS.  She teaches Old Testament, Greek and Spiritual Formation at Cape Town Biblical College.

Dr. T S Martyn Beets (PhD, MDiv, MA, BEE)

Martyn Beets is married to his wife, Magda, for 17 years and has been in pastoral ministry for the equal amount of years.  They are the parents of three boys and one girl.  He is currently serving a church in Hermanus and got involved at CTBC late in 2015.  He completed his four year seminary training at the Seminary of the Evangelies-Gereformeerede Kerk.  He completed a masters of Arts in Biblical Counseling through the Master’s College in Santa Clarita California and is currently busy with his PhD in pastoral studies at NWU.  His research is in the field of Discipleship as paradigm for Life Coaching . He is also a member of the Steering Committee of the Association of Certified Biblical Counsellors – Africa (ACBC, formerly known as NANC).Martyn teaches in the field of Pastoral Counselling, Ethics, and Spiritual Formation.  

Pieter Els (Prof): MA, PhD, D.Th, D.Litt)

is an ordained minister of the Uniting Reformed Church (V.G.K.).  He studied Theology and Semitic Languages (Hebrew, Aramaic, Ugaritic, Arabic) at the University of Stellenbosch and overseas at Hartford Seminary and Yale Divinity School in Connecticutt (U.S.A.).  He has for many years been teaching Old Testament Studies, Biblical Hebrew and Missiology at the following academic theological institutions:As Senior Lecturer at the University of Fort Hare (Alice) and at the University of Durban- Westville; and as Professor, at the theological faculties of the University of the Western Cape (Cape Town)and the University of Stellenbosch (part time).  He has also intermittently taught at theological colleges, – the Baptist College (Cape Town), the Moravian Seminary (Cape Town), All Nations Christian College (Ware, Hertfordshire, U.K.) and the Cornerstone Christian College (Cape Town). For the last eleven years Pieter has been functioning as Senior Co-ordinator and Old Testament Lecturer in the distance-learning theological programmes of the University of the Free State and of the Nehemiah Bible Institute (accredited by the University of Pretoria).  He has for many years been involved in Bible Translation, and as a representative of his church denomination served on the national advisory body of the Bible Society of Southern Africa.  He has been active in publishing and lecturing in the theological disciplines of Biblical Hebrew, Old Testament Studies and Missiology. Pieter is married to a music teacher/organist Betsie; they have four children of whom one, Johan, is a pastor in Durbanville.  Soli Deo Gratia!

(Rev) PhD candidate , M.T.S , BTh: KARSTENS,  Paul Robert

Paul comes from Cape Town and was converted in 1975.  He is married to Marilyn and they have three children. He completed his undergraduate ministerial training at Cape Town Baptist College in 1988 and went on to pastor his first church in Tongaat, KZN. He served as an elder at Mountain View Baptist Church and Plumstead Baptist Church (where he is a member) in Cape Town.  He completed his Master’s degree in Theology at Toronto Baptist Seminary in Ontario, Canada in 1996.  He served as full time faculty at the Bible Institute of South Africa in Kalk Bay, Cape Town from 1997-2019, lecturing in the areas of Practical Theology, Homiletics, New Testament and Ethics. He also served as Dean of Students for many years. He has been teaching part time at Cape Town Biblical College since 2014. In 2019 he started a new teaching and training ministry for pastors and church leaders in the Eastern Cape called the School for Biblical Church Leadership. His burden is to provide consistent biblical/theological training to church leaders in their local contexts. 

Dr. Trevor Keyter (PhD , MTh,BTh)

Reverend Trevor Keyter completed his Bachelor’s Degree in Theology at the Cape Town Baptist Seminary and his Master’s Degree in Theology at the University of Pretoria. He completed his PHD through Jacksonville Theological Seminary (USA) He was the associate pastor of Tableview Baptist Church; the Dean of the Bible school at Christian family church Tygervalley. He is the founding pastor of Solid Rock Ministries in Brackenfell, and is currently the senior pastor of Goedemoed Baptist church.

(Dr) PhD, Mth,  Educ Dip Prim, Licentiate Theology: KHOASEB,  Martin

Martin obtained his first theology degree from Bible Institute of South Africa in 1994 with further degrees from UNISA (BTh Honours), University of Free State (MTh) and Stellenbosch University (PhD Practical Theology). Martin is a trained educator who taught at various primary schools for over seven years in Windhoek and Cape Town. He has been involved in parachurch ministry with Scripture Union as guardian teacher, field worker and director of Scripture Union Namibia. Martin taught as junior lecturer at the Bible Institute of South Africa for two years; and as lecturer and principal of Namibia Evangelical Theological Seminary for five years. He is an ordained minister of gospel in AFM Namibia and was a part time pastor for seven years. He is currently serving as an elder at Crossway Baptist Church in Durbanville. Martin has passion for leadership development and want to see men and women maturing in their faith and become catalyst for spiritual and social change in their churches and communities.

Dr. Errol Wagner [BCom, BTh, Lith (Hons), MTh, DTh]

 Errol was born in Port Elizabeth where he completed his schooling. His parents were members of the Salvation Army and that is where he not only came to faith in Christ, but began to preach; first in the ‘Open Air’ meetings and then at some of the meetings and also in Sunday School teaching. At the age of 18 he became aware of a call to serve the Lord in fulltime ministry. Initially he felt called to become a school teacher in the then Rhodesia {Zimbabwe} and began his studies at Rhodes University. Due to financial constraints, he could not continue studying fulltime and began working at the Department of Customs and Excise, while at the same time studying at a branch of Rhodes University in Port Elizabeth. In 1964 he graduated with a B.Com degree During that time God’s call became stronger and at the age of 38 he went to study at the Baptist College in Parktown supported by his wife who is a school teacher of profession. In his third year, he was called to assist a new work in Van Riebeeck Park, Gauteng. After graduating from the college he became the first fulltime pastor of Grace Baptist Church in Van Riebeeck Park. During this time, he and his wife were blessed with a daughter, Ingrid. After 5 years they moved to Durban North Baptist Church where he served from 1985 – 1996 whilst continued his studies at the University of South Africa [Unisa] and completed a BTh and then at the University of Durban Westville a MTh and DTh. It was in 1996 that the family were called to George Baptist Church where he served until his retirement at the end of 2012. In 2013 he taught at the Bible Institute in Kalk Bay. He have always had a close connection with the Bible Institute, having served on their board for a number of years and as chairman of the board for a short period. He is now retired and serve as a member of the Good News Bible Church where his son-in-law, Bradley Tilley is the fulltime elder. Errol is also involved as Emeritus Elder at the Mossel Bay Baptist Church.
